Dear Les
Thanks for your prompt reply. Perhaps I had not made my mothers maiden name quite clear. She was born Vera Beatty WOOLLETT, married my father Laurence Eric WELCH, (who died in 1966) and subsequently re-married John Holland.
Unfortunately I do not know the exact date of her first marriage, but was in 1941, I believe in June or July, at St. Peter's Church, St. Peter's Road, Maidstone. This church was eventually de-consecrated and pulled down, together with the old Style & Winch brewery opposite, to make room for the second bridge over the Medway and for the new shopping complex next to it.
I enclose below all the details I know of the Maidstone Woolletts. I also have added details of the much earlier William Woollett and his wife and son; details of these three taken from the gravestone just outside the main door into All Saint's Church in Maidstone. These details are as follows and are an exact wording taken from the gravestone when I first discovered it:-
IN
Memory of WILLIAM
WOOLLETT Late Serjeant
inthe Weft Kent Regiment
of Militia who died Nov.r
10th 1776 Aged 39 Years
Left Ifsue by SUSANNA
his Wife one Son WILL.M
Also of SUSANNA
Wife of the above who died
Sept 26 1786 Aged 40 years
I suspect the above fits in two or three generations back from my great grandfather.
