The Woollett Family History Site

Thank you for visiting this site. I hope that you will get some useful information out of it. The presentation is plain, simple and functional to minimise the time it takes to download and view pages.
This started off as a conventional home page. I was interested in family history and wanted to make my research available to other people, to avoid duplication of effort. The response was very encouraging and as information came in it became apparent that a more formal "home" was needed.

This site is run by Woolletts for Woolletts

If you can supply more information or make suggestions on how to improve the site they will be gratefully received. If you would like to contribute articles or whole pieces of research then I am more than happy to credit you accordingly. Please remember, for me this is a spare time hobby and I only have a certain amount of time and money to spend on it.

Think of this as your site, it can only be as interesting as the material that you are able to provide to share with others.

I would like to include more extracts from Parish Records, when you are next searching through them, make an extra copy and send it to me so that the information can be shared as they are not always readily accessible.  With more and more information being transcribed to the Internet and on-line access to census documents etc. life is much easier for armchair researchers and those living abroad than it was a few years ago.

Latest.....8th March 2008....  The web pages do not get updated too often these days but work still goes on behind the scenes as time permits and the core database (off-line) is updated frequently.

Thank you to Violette in London and Marianne in New Zealand for your most recent contributions which I am now in the process of adding to these web pages.  Until now a largely missing but very significant branch of the family. Much more to follow in due course.
The book "Memorials of The Sidneys & The Woolletts" is now available to view as a pdf and I have presented it in the form that it was originally published.  An illustrated article by Marianne about Amelia Vaughan Jones Woollett has also just been uploaded, a fascinating insight into family life at the time.

9th March.... Now added article about John Sidney Woollett 1845-1917 (and family) - with thanks for the work of Margaret Woollett Goodwin.
And last of all..... a narrative about John Woollett, his wife Amelia and their children.

New 10th March.... a bit more rapid progress. I have just purchased GEDmill Pro which after many hours of searching seems to be the nicest program for translating gedcom files into html pages for the web.  My Woollett database is now online for you to search.  It represents 30 or more years of additions to my computer files from a wide range of reliable and inaccurate sources, an aid to research only, you must check the information yourself.  There are errors and duplications, a hotch potch of thoughts and blind alleys.

For those of you who do not know me, and bearing in mind the absence of international borders on the Internet, my name is Les Sullivan, I am English, in my mid fifties,  married with three children, now into their late teens, and live a few miles South of Cambridge in UK. My maternal grandmother was a Woollett.  This web site has been running since about 1997.
